Bishop Sarah is the anglican Bishop of Shrewsbury* - the part of Lichfield Diocese that covers the northern part of Shropshire as far south as Shrewsbury and Telford.

Originally from Manchester, she was vicar of Moss Side to the south of the city centre for 15 years before moving to the Diocese of York where as Archdeacon of York she had responsibility for a large number of urban and rural parishes.

She is alleged to be a dab hand at driving a tractor, riding a racehorse and avoiding pulpits when preaching. At other times she enjoys good wine.

*not to be confused with the other Bishop of Shrewsbury, Rt Revd Mark Davies, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury.

The Rt Revd Paul Thomas

Bishop of Oswestry

The new of See of Oswestry belongs to a suffragan bishop acting as a Provincial Episcopal Visitor, ministering principally to Catholic tradition parishes and clergy in the western part of Province of Canterbury for whom, under the House of Bishops Declaration on the ministry of Bishop and Priests 2014, he serves as ‘the bishop asked to provide oversight’.

This replaces the former Bishop of Ebbsfleet. The first Bishop of Oswestry is Fr Paul Thomas who was consecrated at Canterbury Cathedral on 2 Feb 2023.

Fr Paul has served in Greater London parishes since his ordination in 2003, but is familiar with the Black Country already, as home for his wife's family. He is used to working nationally in the CofE having spent a decade working in the Liturgical Commission.
