Touching God through Dementia: Dementia-Friendly Churches Network Meeting

From 1:30-5pm, our whole-network meeting will include three key elements:

• Andy Wynter’s personal experience: Andy Wynter, our Diocesan Racial Justice Strategic Development Coordinator, talks about caring for his mum, Rose, through dementia.
• “Touching God through Dementia: Experiencing dementia in family life and connecting with God’s presence”: Professor Peter Kevern explores touch as a way of recognising Christ’s organic presence through the depths of dementia, drawing on his book, “Touching God: Dementia and the Bodies of Christ”.
• Network exchange: hearing from one another, we share experiences, support and encouragement across our network.

Who is it for: Clergy, Readers, Members of our Dementia-Friendly Church Network and anyone with an interest in the topic,

Course Hosts:

The session will be facilitated by:

• Sarah Thorpe (Dementia-Friendly Church Enabler, Diocese of Lichfield)
• Professor Peter Kevern (The Queen's Foundation, Birmingham's Ecumenical Theological College)

From the Diocese, the following will also be present for some/all of the session:

• Andy Wynter (Racial Justice Strategic Development Coordinator) will be talking about his lived experience of caring for his mum, Rose, through Dementia.
• The Rt Revd Sarah Bullock (Area Bishop of Shrewsbury)

Time: Lunch from 1pm (generously provided by the Cathedral), the session will begin at 1:30pm and will end at 5pm
